I actually wrote this haiku for the Porad Award that year (obviously it didn't win and I was free to use it elsewhere!) Growing up I remember driving with my parents through the countryside at night and seeing so much nightlife being caught in short glimpses in their headlight beams. As a child, it was fascinating to see what was usually hidden during the day. Those are the images that came to mind in writing this, and I do like the juxtaposes of the small feeble light of fireflies eaten up in the glaring lights of car headlights.
