Hong Kong Review Publication

The Hong Kong Review Vol IV No. 2 is out and I'm super excited to find my poem, 'Sleepless' on Page 36! This poem was written during one of many sleepless nights with my son when he was a newborn and captures my experiences so well. You can read it below!

Big thanks to Zongxian Huang and the rest of the team for including me in their publication! The entire review is created and printed in Hong Kong, a city I was so impressed with when we visited on our Honeymoon trip, so I'm excited to be included in their literary and art journal!

Sleepless
Sophia Conway

I am well acquainted with the lonely hours
and the shadows that occupy the world at night,
especially those in the darkest corners of my house
that makes me question the light.

I know the silence of night well,
the stillness that hangs between the sheets,
only allowing the tip tap of rain through
and my heartbeat loud within my chest.

I know the shattering of nightly rest,
the craters underneath my eyes
and yawns which are my body's cry
for a world of dreamless sleep
yet unreached.

I know the streets outside my window,
transformed into much unknown,
the shade of every dim streetlight below
and how they stretch and grow.

I know of tiny lights around
not normally found
when day breaks across the skies
And my inner/ outer worlds collide.
