Resources | Healing from a Miscarriage

In 2025, my debut poetry book will be released with poems inspired by my journey to motherhood. A part of that journey was the experience of our first pregnancy ending in a miscarriage and the healing and grief we had to work through after. As these topics/ poems can be triggering to those who have experienced the same or similar grief, I wanted to compile a few resources that could potentially help someone work through the complexities of such a loss. Some of them I used myself and others come highly recommended. I encourage anyone to look through the list below (and other options) to decide which might be the best fit!

Personally, as helpful as I found some of these books, nothing beats an in-person counselling session to talk through your loss. Grief is very isolating so meeting with others can bring comfort and support. Check out what your local options are by asking your community support center and/or family doctor.

For Women

  • Healing Your Grieving Heart After Miscarriage: 100 Practical Ideas for Parents and Families, Alan D. Wolfelt PhD | Purchase Here [I found this one the most helpful as it's a very practical book. Dr Alan suggests things that you can do to allow yourself to grieve such as holding a small ceremony or getting something in remembrance for the child. One suggestion of his was to sponsor a child for life as a tribute to your own child and to this day we sponsor a little girl in Peru!]
  • Joy at the End of the Rainbow: A Guide for Pregnancy After a Loss Paperback, Amanda Ross-White | Purchase Here [Many people told me that the pregnancy after a miscarriage would be a healing experience for us but it was not. Amidst all the emotional triggers of our second pregnancy, this book helped walk us through it. A miscarriage can be devastating and, unfortunately, the pregnancy after a miscarriage can be unbelievably hard too.]
